Turkish Airlines Miles & Smiles and AVIS have published a promotion where members can earn a minimum of 7,000 Miles with just two separate car rentals.
This is a tiered promotion where the amount of miles you collect depends on the amount of days your car rental is running plus a promotional bonus for the second rental.
While it’s probably a bit uncommon to have the 10+ day rentals which would yield in the maximum amount of 4,000 miles per rental the shorter ones are easier to accomplish and thanks to the main bonus of 5,000 miles for the second rental it can still be worthwhile to follow up on this promotion.

Avis will award you 5000 Miles when you rent minimum two times during the period September to December 2017. You will in addition earn the following for each of your rentals:
1000 Miles for 1 and 2 day rentals
1500 Miles for 3-6 days rentals
2500 Miles for 7-9 days rentals
4000 Miles for 10+ days rentals

It’s important to pay attention to the following:
To qualify for any additional miles, reservations must be made using a Miles&Smiles/Avis Worldwide Discount (AWD) number: Classic Member E191400 or Elite Member E203800. Reservations made on www.avisworld.com/turkishairlinesmilesandsmiles (with Miles&Smiles membership level selected) will have an AWD automatically embedded in the reservation.
If any other AWD number is present in the rental booking no bonus miles will be awarded.
If any other AWD number is present in a customer’s Avis Preferred profile and this is used in the rental booking no bonus Miles will be awarded and once booked this cannot be reversed.
It’s very possible that using other or no discount (AWD) numbers are actually cheaper and I recommend to compare the prices before biting for the miles promotion.
Conclusion
Rental car promotions are often not in the mainstream but especially in the U.S. there are some sweet spots available that are stretched over the year and for different programs. I have a friend who collects hundreds of thousands of miles through car rental promotions each year in his free time. Of course it helps that he lives in an area where rental cars can be very cheap and easy to pick up / return.

2. Promotion is valid for any reservation created in the period 1st September to 31st December with rental period 1st September to 31st December 2017.
3. Each qualified rental will we awarded a total of 1000 Miles for any 1 and 2 day rentals, 1500 Miles for 3 to 6 days, 2500 Miles for 7 to 9 days and 4000 Miles for 10 days or longer.
4. In addition Avis will award 5000 Miles for your second rental. This is in addition to your earning in point 3.

10. Rentals made using Avis contracted (corporate/government) rates/AWDs, chauffeur drive, or van rentals do not qualify for Miles&Smiles Miles. Travel industry staff rates including THY and Avis employee programs, replacement/insurance rates, selected association programs, and net rate programs do not qualify.
11. This promotion is not valid on Prestige rentals worldwide.
12. The awarding of Miles&Smiles Miles may take up to 8 weeks from date of the rental closing.
13. This promotion and all Miles&Smiles Miles issued are subject to Miles&Smiles terms and conditions.
