British Airways Executive Club has launched an Avios sale that comes with up to 50% targeted bonus for purchases made between September 12 – 29, 2017.
British Airways has capped the number of Avios that one can purchase any calendar year before any bonuses at 100,000.

Note that the price of the Avios depends where your Executive Club account is registered. Mine is in Europe.
And the price at the 50% bonus is:
The price of one Avios purchased under this offer is 1.2 Euro cents each
Conclusion
The maximum bonus during these sales has been 50% and the price of Avios has been dependent where your account is based.
Buying Avios can make sense if you are able to use them for Reward Flight Savers with limited taxes/fees (my favorite option for travel between London and European cities) or you have a 2-4-1 redemption voucher and happen to be Gold Guest List member (much better availability). Perhaps you can throw in an upgrade voucher for two as well…
There are some partners that have very low or no fuel surcharges at all. Using Avios for those flights can be a good deal.
Considering that BA charges very high fuel surcharges on economy awards, it rarely makes sense to redeem for long-haul economy flights on their own metal (some exceptions as is always the case).
