Couldn’t believe my eyes couple of hours ago when this email from Airberlin Topbonus made it to by inbox!
An airline frequent flier program, majority owned by Etihad, that has basically cease to exists because Airberlin is in bankruptcy and soon to be divided by Lufthansa and other airlines, is trying to get members to make hotel bookings to earn more miles that they cannot use in any meaningful way (at least not at the moment).
Here’s the text of the email:
Yes. My Topbonus balance is flat zero. I was able to clean up the account back in May when I made a Finnair BKK-HEL business class redemption for travel couple of days later and converted the exact number of SPG Starpoints to Topbonus miles to make it happen.
Nobody should credit anything to Topbonus until they clearly announce what they will do with the program. It shouldn’t be that difficult for the Etihad to fold it with their Guest-program if they so choose.
