Qantas Will Pay For Your Passport To Visit Australia, Discounting U.S. Departure Passenger Tickets By US$135

Qantas has rolled out an interesting promotion, discounting tickets by the exact price a U.S. passport costs (US$135) in order to promote flights to Australia.

No need to send a receipt, the discount goes by a generic discount code for the value of a whopping US$135 off the lowest available fare.

The discount will apply for each passenger on eligible fares purchased (any class of service, infant tickets not applicable) between October 19 2017 and November 28 2017.

Purchases must be made through the Qantas Passport Redeem landing page (access here).

The promotion code PASSPORT needs to be entered in order to receive results with the $135 discount.

Below is a promotional video Qantas uploaded on Youtube:

I went to price out an itinerary and the discount actually reflects as promises so this appears to be an honest promotion, not some bogus discount. Good job Qantas!

Obviously you don’t need to be a U.S. citizen to profit from this promotion, however it is only valid for U.S. departure cities.

Conclusion

Interesting promotion with a very decent discount. The promotion is actually based on data from the U.S. State Department (see here) that only a very small fraction of U.S. citizens actually holds a valid passport. For the last decade, between 14-18 Million passports are issued annually including those that replace expiring ones. As an overall number that isn’t a very large number considering you even need one to visit Canada and Mexico (even though going via land border a U.S. Passport Card would be sufficient).

Here are the Terms & Conditions for this promotion:

Disclaimer: * Passport cost is calculated based on the combined total of the application fee ($110) and execution fee ($25) of an adult first-time applicant for a passport book in the United States. To be eligible for this offer, booking must be made at qantas.com/passportredeem and the code ‘PASSPORT’ entered. Even if you already have a valid US passport, Qantas will honor the discount provided the process above is followed. Offer valid until 28 November 2017 and is only available on tickets originating and purchased in the United States.
