A LoyaltyLobby reader sent me an email about how to maximize the benefits of signing up for Marriott Rewards for a SPG Gold member that has never been part of their program previously.
Here’s the email from the reader:
I would like to to ask you something which might be interesting to other readers as well.
I do hold SPG Gold status for years. I did never sign up at Marriott Rewards.
Since now with the possibility of a direct status match from SPG to Marriott, the free-night promotion for new members, the other MegaBonus promotion for a free night I would like to combine those possibilities.
Which would be the best order in not to loose any of the promotions? My intention was:
1. Sign up to Marriott Rewards with a new account (any bonus?)
2. Sign up for the free weekend-night promo for new members
3. Sign up for the free night Megabonus Promotion
4. Link and Match Marriott status to SPG (so i can enjoy the benefits on the stays)
5. Reserve and absolve 4 stays at a Marriott Property
Could i just go ahead with this order or would any promotion interfere with another?
There are two kind of promotions that new member is eligible for at the time of signing up; you can either get bonus points for the first few stays through the Refer a member-program or Free Night Certificate valid at category 1 – 5 properties after two stays (access here).
Note that neither of these two promotions can be retroactively applied for your account. You need to sign up using the correct links.
Once you have your account set up, you can then link your SPG and Marriott Rewards account and sign up for the Marriott Rewards MegaBonus.
You will earn two free night certificates after two stays. You don’t need to do four.
Should be easy two free Category 1 – 5 certificates after two stays for this reader that has never previously has Marriott Rewards account.
Also, the Marriott Rewards Gold status is quite useful because it comes with complimentary breakfast and/pr club lounge access.
