The price of a point purchased for me at the 100% bonus is 0.5 cents each.
Previously, the lowest price that IHG was selling points was $690 for 120K and then price per point was 0.575 each. During the previous sale, some members were offered this 0.5 while others weren’t.
Does it make sense to purchase points?
Purchasing points merely because they are on sale doesn’t make sense. If you have a good use for them, buying can lower the price of the stays considerably.
Usually using points make sense at the most expensive properties, during PointBreaks when some hotels are just 5,000 points per night, or when the paid rates are through the roof due to some event in the city.
Conclusion
IHG Rewards Club sells points throughout the year with variable bonus amounts that max at 100%. I am glad that IHG has lowered the purchase price of their points and make this permanent for all.
