A LoyaltyLobby reader sent us a Tweet with a question about requalifying to Marriott Rewards Gold status for 2018 and being three nights short as of today.
You can access Marriott Rewards here.
Here’s the Tweet from the reader:
I am a Marriott Gold Elite Member and I realized i fall short by 3 nights end of the year , dec 31, to match their renewal. Any idea if i can buy back or do anything to retain the status in Jan?
Marriott Rewards has traditionally extended the status for many that has hold it for number of years and has been few nights short. This was case with my own account for number years after several heavy years of traveling with Marriott in the early 2000’s.
Marriott has also allowed on to Buy Back the status using points. They usually launch this promotion in the early January. The price to buy back the Gold status has been 25,000 points (read more here). Remember that you can currently buy SPG points at a discount and convert those to Marriott Rewards for this or any other purpose (read more here).
So, reader should wait to see if Marriott Rewards extends the status and then decide what the best course of action would be. He could perhaps do Fast Track to Platinum status or Buy Back the Gold status using points.
Marriott Rewards has relatively high qualification requirements for both Gold and Platinum status. They have, however, quite a few fast track and tricks to reach them with ease.
