SPG Program Changes In 2018 (Stays Separate From Marriott Rewards)

Many members must have been contemplating what is the fate of Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) program in 2018?

SPG Match

Marriott Rewards and SPG (and Ritz-Carlton Rewards) will remain separate in 2018. Members can continue to link their accounts, match status and move points between accounts.

You can access SPG here.

SPG is launching more close partnership with Hertz to match Marriott Rewards. Platinum members are eligible for complimentary Gold Plus Rewards Five Star and Platinum members with Ambassador President’s Circle status.

SPG Gold and Platinum members that have lifetime status will no longer see their points expire due to inactivity.

I would assume that this means that the program integration will likely take place at the beginning of 2019 which makes sense.

There is no need to rush things. Members can link their accounts for status matching and transferring points purposes. I just don’t understand why Marriott/SPG cannot count the combined nights too for elite status earning purposes?

Why Marriott has always insisted that Ritz-Carlton Rewards is separate program when in fact it is not? It is merely a flag on your Marriott Rewards account.
