Le Parker Meridien New York & Palm Springs Both Exit Starwood System On January 4, 2018

Le Parker Meridien hotels in New York City and Palm Springs that have had rocky relationship with Starwood hotels are both exiting Marriott system effective January 4, 2018.

Le Parker Meridien New York

Reservations made after January 4, 2018, won’t accrue Starpoints or earn stay/night credits on SPG program. It is unclear if these two hotels will become affiliated with any other hotel chain.

Here’s the New York announcement:

Le Parker Méridien New York will be leaving Marriott on January 4, 2018. Reservations for dates on or after January 4, 2018, will not be eligible for Starwood Preferred Guest membership benefits, award redemption or accrual.

Here’s the Palm Springs announcement:

Le Parker Méridien Palm Springs will be leaving Marriott on January 4, 2018. Reservations for dates on or after January 4, 2018, will not be eligible for Starwood Preferred Guest membership benefits, award redemption or accrual.

Conclusion

Starwood and these two hotels had a dispute due to fraudulent award night reimbursement cases. Both of these hotels had faked occupancy records to get higher reimbursement rates from Starwood that over the years according to SPG had resulted to overcompensation to the tune of more than a million dollars.

I have stayed at the Palm Springs property several times and it was quite lovely. Sad to see it leaving the SPG/Marriott system.

It is unclear at this time if these two hotels will honor award reservations after the exit date. I will request clarification from SPG.
