Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) officially launched Ambassador program back in 2012 (read more here), although the program had been running unofficially since 2009 as invitation only.
I qualified for the status on that year due to having more than 110 nights with the program in 2011 down from 130+ from 2010. Seems that I am on track getting the Ambassador status for the very last time for 2018 before the SPG program is dismantled.
You can access SPG’s website for Ambassador program here.

Ambassador is not a higher status than Platinum. It rather comes with an Ambassador that is supposed to smooth your travel experience with SPG properties overall that may or may not happen. It is up to individual properties to provide the benefits of the program.
When I was part of the SPG Ambassador program five years ago, it was a huge disappointment. The marketing promise was great and to a certain extend still is if you believe the marketing videos but delivery was abysmal.
I wouldn’t spend a single extra night to hit 100 nights to get the Ambassador. This seems to be happening due to good SPG promotion and my decision to mostly dump Hyatt earlier in the year.
I have few friends that are part of the SPG Ambassador. One appears to be satisfied while all the others mostly not. Seems to be dependent of the Ambassador assigned to handle your account.
