Singapore Airlines Krisflyer and the online booking portal Trip.com have a new cooperation to collect KrisFlyer miles based on the spent on hotels booked through the platform.
Online travel agents (OTAs) always find new ways trying to entice potential customers to book through their specific site which in turn earns them commission from the hotels.
How does it work in this particular case? You can access the Trip.com website with the promotions here.
Earning the points sounds easy enough if it actually works however one should consider if the one mile for 1 US$ spent isn’t a bit low value considering you’re foregoing potential discount codes and other loyalty currency. Orbitz usually has discount coupons for ~15% off and you can also earn Orbucks in the process.
For someone who really wants to earn miles of various programs Rocketmiles or Kaligo are a decent option as they award a specific amount of miles per hotel night spent (much much more than 1 miles per $) however their rates usually seems to be higher than the best public rate available.
The first thing that happened when I pulled up trip.com was the whole site built up in a strange way. That aside I don’t think 1 mile per USD spent is a very great reward for a third party booking channel I’d always try to find a 15% off coupon somewhere for other OTA’s or book through the hotel chain direct to receive Elite benefits and points in their own programs.
