Reader Question: Newspapers Going Away From Delta Sky Clubs? (From All Delta Apparently)

A LoyaltyLobby reader dropped me an email about discontinuance of newspapers at Delta SkyClubs effective January 1, 2018 that he was told by the club employees.

Here’s the email from the reader:

I’m a lifetime SkyClub member and have heard from Club employees in both ORD and IND this week that newspapers will no longer be stocked for Club members to read starting January 1, 2018.

Have YOU heard this?!

If not, do you have a contact at Delta you can ask please for all your readers?

(This would be a bad move if you ask me!).

Well. I had to ask around….

Seems that newspapers are not going away only from Sky Clubs but from on-board as well. Delta estimates that they will save $5 to $6 millions yearly by discontinuing them.

I would assume that most if not all the newspapers were delivered Delta for free or for nominal charge and sad to see them go.

Whenever I fly, I try to grab quality newspaper such as Financial Times or the New York Times to read on the plane. My favorite magazine to read during the flights is the Economist.

Many airlines have discontinued physical newspapers and have introduced electronic versions using their apps. Not sure if Delta is planning to do something along these lines?
