Hilton Shanghai Will Exit The Hilton Chain Effective January 1st 2018, Hilton Honors Benefits No Longer Apply

A popular chain hotel in China, the Hilton Shanghai, will exit the Hilton chain effective January 1st 2018 from which on all benefits associated with Hilton Honors will no longer apply.

The notice has been posted on the hotels website and even though confirmed reservations are honored it’s noted that guests can no longer earn Hilton points for their stays.

Even though benefits such as lounge access, upgrades, late check out and complimentary internet are not explicitly mentioned but in line with other chain exits guests can expect those to no longer apply either.

Customers are encouraged to contact Hilton should they wish to change or cancel their reservation.

Guests who have prepaid reservations should have a case for receiving a full refund as the lack of brand and associated benefits are a major issue.

Even though Hilton has plenty of properties in Shanghai the Hilton Shanghai was the most central and mainstream one they had. The Waldorf Astoria on the Bund is nice but at the same time it’s also quite pricey, the Doubletree Pudong really nothing to write home about.

Chain exits or re-branding are always a messy affair and unfortunately guests are caught in the crossfire. Once a hotel is out of a chain such as Hilton there is no guarantee minimum standards are being upheld and in any case a very valuable benefit (earning points, status credits and receiving elite perks) is already gone.
