Hyatt’s World of Hyatt program today made two announcements both taking effect as of January 1, 2018.
Free night awards will finally become elite qualifying and specific awards that previously expired 120 after issuance are then valid for 180 days.
You can access World of Hyatt here.
Previously, only paid nights and Points + Cash were elite qualifying while pure awards night were not unlike with Hilton, IHG, Marriott and Starwood.
The award night extension applies to those certificates that were issued after hitting 30 and 60 nights within a calendar year that were expiring in 120 after issuance. In 2018, they expire after 180 days.
Wouldn’t surprise me if lack of promotions combined with worsened customer service, lack of properties worldwide and raised qualification requirements had lead to erosion in number of top tier members.
I moved most of my stays that would have gone to Hyatt to other chains in 2017 and haven’t looked back. First time in 15 or so years, I won’t have top tier status with Hyatt.
Making award stays elite qualifying like all the others have done years ago is certainly a right move.
