Sheraton Frankfurt Airport Club Lounge Option For Non-Staying Platinum Members Discontinued

The Sheraton Frankfurt Airport hotel had a longstanding policy of allowing SPG Platinum Members who aren’t actually staying at the hotel to use their club lounge facilities which has now been discontinued.

While this benefit has not been very well known there were many people who used the option extensively as I’ve been told by the staff there.

If you’re a Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) Platinum member and found yourself having a long layover at Frankfurt Airport using the Lounge at Sheraton Airport Hotel was actually a quite valuable benefit the hotel provided.

I wrote about this back in the summer of 2016 (access the article here) and we got quite a few emails and comments about this.

In fact I wouldn’t have imagined this feature of the Sheraton Frankfurt Airport to be that popular since the lounge is a little out of the way but as I was told many people went there for breakfast (quite nice, extensive buffet) or the evening dinner and cocktail hours.

The hotel has now informed a friend of mine who is a frequent guest (staying at the hotel, not just the lounge) there that this access policy has been amended and that the complimentary access to the lounge for non-staying SPG Platinum members is no longer possible.

I’ve rarely heard about such access policy at any other hotels around the world and wonder if some visitors just took much advantage of the option to access the lounge when not staying there or if hotel management just decided it was time to end the promotion without any deeper reason.

In any case it’s unfortunate. I’ve used it a few times when the pick-up / return times of my rental car needed a bit of a buffer or I wanted to grab some breakfast after an early arrival (I always decline the breakfast on the plane).
