Virgin Australia Velocity: Targeted Double Status Credits On Australian Domestic Flights For Inactive Members

Virgin Velocity has sent emails to inactive members who haven’t credited any flights to their account for some time, offering double status credits on Virgin Australia domestic flights.

The promotion requires members to book an eligible Virgin Australia (domestic) flight between 16 January and 01 February 2018 with travel until 11 October 2018 in order to receive double status miles.

Virgin is known for having pretty weird promotions that sound better than they actually are (wrote about them a few times) and this one is certainly no exception.

When I got the email today it reads:

We noticed you haven’t flown with Virgin Australia for a while, so we thought we’d check in.

Activate this offer and book an eligible Virgin Australia flight between 16 January and 01 February 2018, and you’ll earn double Status Credits* to get you on your way!
They’ll help elevate your membership so you can enjoy benefits like priority check in, complimentary baggage allowances and lounge access. Here’s to a little extra luxury!

Yes it says ‘eligible flights’ but nowhere does it say that this promotion is for domestic flights only. You just see this after registering for the offer.

You can access the details on the Velocity website under ‘Exclusive Offers’ (see here).

I received the targeted offer via email that included a link so should you be interested in this you can either try to visit their website above or monitor your email inbox. Keep in mind that judging by the wording this appears to be for inactive members who haven’t credited anything to their Velocity account for quite some time.

This could have been interesting if international flights were included as well but for domestic only I don’t see any benefit in my case especially since I had only one single domestic flight with them since 2012 from Perth to Sydney following a status match.

These are the Terms & Conditions displayed after my registration (dates don’t make any sense as it says 2017):

By activating the above bonus Points promotion, you agree to and accept the specific below offer terms and conditions.

To be eligible for the Double Velocity Points promotion you must (1) Activate this offer through the activation link contained in this email between 12.01am AEST 15 November 2017 and 11.59pm 28 November 2017 inclusive (Promotion Period); and (2) book an Eligible Flight during the Promotion Period; and (3) enter a valid Velocity membership number at time of booking. An Eligible Flight is an Australian Domestic flight marketed and operated by Virgin Australia, for travel between 15 November 2017 and 11 October 2018 inclusive which are flights on which Points can be earned and booked in a fare class that normally accrues Points. Codeshare services marketed or operated by partner airlines other than Virgin Australia are not eligible for this offer. Bonus Points earned are in addition to any Points ordinarily earned and will be applied to base Points only. Any applicable tier bonus earned will not attract Bonus Points as a result of this offer.
