A LoyaltyLobby reader sent us an email about Royal Ambassador requalification criteria for this year and he had apparently also received incorrect information from the Ambassador Service Center.
You can access IHG’s page for Ambassador program here.
Here’s the email from the reader:
I SEND TO AMBASSADOR AN EMAIL ABOUT WHAT THE CUALIFICETION FOR ROYAL AMBASSADOR ARE?
THAY DONT EVEN KNOW…..
THE LOYELTY OF IHG GOING FROM BED TO WORS
Here’s the reply that the reader had received from Ambassador Service Center on January 21:
Thank you for taking the time to contact the InterContinental Ambassador Service Center.
My name is Shine. Hope you’re doing well.
My pleasure to assist a Spire ambassador elite member like you.
I can see here that you are Royal ambassador way back 2017. Royal Ambassador status is given by invitation only. We are unable to provide a specific number of stays or nights required to qualify. The status is systematically awarded to the top one percent tier of our most frequent guests, based on hotel nights. As of to date, there are no specific number of nights that determine how a member may maintain Royal Ambassador status.
Hope this helped to answer your concern. If you need anything else, please let us know – we’d be glad to help
The reader had had 77 nights with 5 different InterContinental stays (unclear if the reader meant that these nights were over just five stays or he had stayed at five different InterContinental hotels).
The reply from the Ambassador Service Center itself is incorrect. The number of consumed nights is no longer the driving factor who gets renewed or upgraded to Royal Ambassador.
It seems that you need to have minimum of $10,000 spend at InterContinental hotels during the calendar year. It is unclear how many nights you need to spend and there is still likely a requirement to visit few InterContinental hotels (previously the minimum of three).
Seems that the Ambassador Service Center is as confused about the Royal Ambassador qualification criteria as are the members.
I wrote a piece earlier this month (access here) where I asked members who had their status renewed or upgraded to post their numbers. Seems that the minimum spend is $10K with set minimum number of nights and hotels too.
