SPG Best Rate Guarantee Response Times Improving? Your Experiences?


SPG has had very good Best Rate Guarantee program where they match the lower rate found on the third party website and now give you either an additional 25% off or 2,000 bonus Starpoints.

Best Rate Guarantee-program, however, started to have serious issues last year when it sometimes days for them to process a claim especially for non-English website. It is clear if claims are not processed promptly the number of successful claims will go significantly down.

I filed two claims very early on Tuesday US time (3AM) and received one approval and one denial roughly seven hours later. The denial was correct because the lower third party rate had vanished.

This is much better than the minimum of one day or longer that I experienced not more than a week ago.


Let’s hope that Marriott has hired more people to work at the SPG Best Rate Guarantee department because it has been simply understaffed. I wrote late last year when Marriott’s own BRG department got back extremely fast (read more here) while SPG one did not.
