Ten western tourists that were allegedly participating in “pornographic” dancing in the Cambodian city of Siem Reap were arrested and may face up to 12 months of jail time (unlikely).

Here’s an excerpt the Guardian (access their piece here):
Five Britons are among a group of 10 foreigners arrested in Cambodia for “singing and dancing pornographically”, after a raid on a party in Siem Reap near the tourist destination of Angkor Wat.
Cambodian police released images online that appeared to show clothed and laughing tourists imitating sexual positions.
Police later posted a group shot of the 10 defendants, but several people in the original images do not appear to be among those arrested, one of the group told the Press Association under condition of anonymity.
And here’s from the Telegraph (access their piece here):
Police said they had found people “singing and dancing pornographically” at the party in Siem Reap town near the Angkor Wat temple, a world heritage site.
It has been reported that police arrested 77 tourists who were taken to the local police headquarters to be “educated” on Thursday.
Most were released, but ten alleged “organisers” were held for 72 hours at the police station before appearing in court on Sunday, where they were put in pre-trial detention.
Seems that the Cambodian authorities may be cracking down on the activities going on in Siem Reap.
It must be close to 10 years when I visited the city and there were a lot of back packers in the area having a good time. Plenty of drink specials at the watering holes in the city center (was staying at the Le Meridien).
This is just a reminder that you never know what might happen and try to keep the local customs in mind.
