SPG & Marriott Rewards Platinum Member Status Match With Hertz Gold Plus Rewards Is Now Live

Platinum members with Starwood Preferred Guest & Marriott Rewards can now obtain their Hertz Gold Plus Elite status (Five Star & Presidents Circle) as the partnership with Hertz now went live.

Marriott Rewards and SPG Platinum members are eligible for Hertz Five Star and Platinum Premier / Platinum Ambassador members for Hertz President’s Circle.

Benefits vary greatly based on the location where you rent from Hertz. While I really like them in the U.S. the service Hertz provides in Germany and several other European countries is just horrible.

The email I received from SPG today describes the new program benefits like this:

Your SPG Platinum elite status makes you eligible to receive Hertz Gold Plus Rewards® Five Star® status, which includes car upgrades, bonus Hertz Gold Plus Rewards points and more. SPG Platinum members with ambassador service will be eligible to receive Hertz Gold Plus Rewards® President’s Circle® status and benefits.

The Hertz landing page can be accessed here and the status will be assigned within a few days.

If you’re not a member of Hertz Gold Plus Rewards yet then it’s required to sign up prior to enrolling for this promotion.

John also wrote about this a few weeks ago (access his article here) before the landing page went live.

I’ve had a few good experiences renting as Presidents Circle over the years but benefits have been scaled back and at the same time Hertz also modified their car categories. Now you often find very mediocre cars in the category of Full Size, pre-assigned to you when arriving at the lot.

Last fall I had a good experience with Hertz at the Los Angeles LAX Airport station (wrote about it here) where I was able to pick a nice Range Rover from the Gold Choice Aisle on a quite cheap reservation for a mid size SUV. Five Star isn’t really a status that’s worth a lot but Presidents Circle also resulted in some premium car upgrades over the years (rather the exception than the rule though).
