Update: Starwood Preferred Guest Withdraws Double Posted Stay Credit For SPG AMEX Members

Last week I wrote about SPG American Express card members having received double stay credits for  the calendar year 2018 (an additional 2 stays / 5 nights bonus on top).

It appears that this was an error and SPG has withdrawn the extra bonus stays/nights from the members account without any comment or email notification.

It probably was too good to be true to begin with but someone can dream. When it posted it looked like this for me (I didn’t have any SPG stays yet for 2018):

After a correction it now shows the usual 2 Stays, 5 Nights for 2018:

This must have happened within the last 24 hours as I was logged in my account yesterday when making a reservation and the previous 4 stay credits were still there.

Strangely enough I now have an additional 1000 SPG points in the account that weren’t there before and don’t appear in the transactions either.

Too bad this has been taken away again, especially without any notification from SPG. I wonder if they have some problems with how things post to the membership accounts at the moment. The real nuisance is that these transactions don’t show up in the record at all. They’re just being deleted by SPG so that now it’s invisible. I really hate when programs operate like that and would prefer when proper accounting practices would prevail and they apply it on a +/- basis.
