Qatar Airways Is About To Open A Brand New Premium Lounge At Bangkok Airport On February 8th, 2018

When I flew out of Bangkok Airport this week I discovered a brand new lounge that Qatar Airways is about to open at the D Concourse and the scheduled opening date is February 8th 2018.

The Qatar Airways Premium Lounge will be the third lounge belonging to oneWorld carriers at Bangkok Airport next to Cathay Pacific and Japan Airlines.

You can access Qatar Airways here.

Qatar Airways has quite a few departures out of Bangkok to Doha as well as Hanoi and they have been sending their passengers to Thai Airways lounges in the past few years which of course costs quite a bit of money over time as well.

When I saw the lounge I was surprised as I haven’t heard about it previously and the sign said that it would soon be open:

I contacted the staff at the Bangkok station and was told that the plan is to keep it open for all QR flights ex Bangkok. There will likely be 2 intervals (approximately 2 hours each) that the lounge will be closed for cleaning.

The lounge doesn’t appear to be indicated as a oneWorld Lounge and if the Qatar Airways Premium Lounge in London Heathrow is anything to go by then this lounge is going to be pretty nice, yet the access policy won’t allow oneworld sapphires or emeralds flying economy. For the LHR facility you must have a business or first class boarding pass with Qatar Airways to gain access to this lounge.

Based on that, passengers on other oneWorld Airlines would have access to this lounge as long as they fly Business or First Class. That being said, nothing prevents each lounge from having their own rules so I wouldn’t be surprised about changes.

Conclusion

The Cathay Pacific and Japan Airlines Lounges are pretty nice already and the QR Lounge will certainly be a nice addition for Qatar Airways / oneWorld Premium Class passengers ex Bangkok.

A few years ago the British Airways / Qantas lounge closed in Bangkok and since then airlines have been sending their passengers to other facilities including the Miracle Lounges which you can also use through PriorityPass or in some instances Thai Airways (like Qatar does at the moment).
