Topbonus, the frequent flier program of the failed German airline Airberlin, is trying to keep trading despite itself seeking bankruptcy protection last year and is now offering “redemption” (I would use that term very loosely) on Germania and Condor.
Topbonus members can redeem 15K/30K miles per oneway/return on select Germania routes and paying hefty fee. Members can also redeem for a 20%/30% discount on Condor flights.
You can access Topbonus page for awards here.
Here’s the Germania info:
You redeem 30,000 miles and then pay in some case more than 200 euros in taxes/fees??
Here’s the Condor info:
Even their examples show how ridiculous proposition this really is. You would need to redeem 20,000 miles for 49 euro discount?
Have to give them a credit for trying to do something but difficult to see anything to come out of this when most of the members have lost all the trust.
These “award” options are basically partner marketing where Topbonus writes down the miles value and the partner collects the cash. I guess that it is win win for both parties.
