Copa ConnectMiles Changes In 2018

Copa ConnectMiles this morning sent out an email about program changes that have already taken and that will take place in the next couple of months.

Copa ConnectMiles Program Update February 2018

Global and Regional Upgrades that are issued for Platinum and Presidential Platinum members are now valid on all fares. Upgrades on promotional fares are processed only on day of departure for all members as are all upgrades for Silver members. Copa has reduced the number of miles earned for lower fare classes.

You can access Copa’s web page for ConnectMiles here.

Conclusion

Copa’s frequent flier program used to OnePass when the airline was partially owned by Continental and later MileagePlus. Copa launched ConnectMiles back in 2015 and was modeled after the United’s program in place at the time (even the award charts were identical).

Members buying lower fare even at the highest status level will have trouble getting upgraded when Copa uses Plus Grade to sells upgrades to general public like many other airlines.

It is understandable that the airline is trying to limit the upgrades for those buying the higher fares by upgrades promo fare buyers only on the day of departure.
