Reader Question: How To Procure Lounge Access At Doha’s Hamad International Airport As Qatar Airways Economy Passenger?

Today we received a Reader Question about lounge options at Doha when traveling in Economy Class on Qatar Airways, both as pay-in and status related benefits.

Remember that you can always email us, send a message via Facebook or use Twitter and include photos too. We’ll try to cover Reader Questions & Comments here several times a week.

Qatar Airways has always been rather complicated when it comes to lounge access as they have many complicated rules in place.

We received an email from Christina who has booked a return flight in Qatar Airways Economy Class, has British Airways Bronze status and also a Priority Pass through one of her credit cards.

What access policies does Qatar Airways offer?

  • Business Class: Al Mourjan Business Class Lounge
  • First Class: Al Safwa First Class Lounge
  • Upgraded TIckets do not receive Lounge Access per the T&C of the paid upgrade program
  • oneWorld Sapphire: Generic Business Class Lounge
  • oneWorld Emerald: Generic First Class Lounge

For members with a Priority Pass there is also the ‘Al Maha Transit Lounge’ available 24 hours a day.

Since last year Qatar Airways also offers paid access to their Al Mourjan Business Class lounge (access more details here).

Qatar Airways and oneworld First Class and Business Class passengers can access this lounge at no additional cost, while Economy Class passengers throughout the network can purchase lounge access online, at the check-in counters, preferred travel agents, or Qatar Airways’ sales offices.

You need a valid reservation to access pricing details but some research on google revealed prices that ranged from 110 EUR per visit to apparently 88 EUR (~ US$100) most recently.

In the readers case since she already has the Priority Pass and oneWorld Ruby status for some basic benefits such as priority check-in I’d probably not consider paying $100 to access the Al Mourjan Lounge unless the transit time is very long.

As mentioned before, Qatar Airways is weird about their lounges. Last month a friend had an Economy Class ticket between Munich-Doha and I suggested to maybe consider purchasing a paid upgrade for the return flight to experience the Al Mourjan lounge. When reading the T&C of the upgrade it was noted that access to the lounge is NOT included so I recommended to just forget about it.
