A LoyaltyLobby reader sent us a question by email getting Marriott/SPG status matched from number of programs.

RQ Marriott SPG

You can access Marriott’s page for linking Marriott/SPG accounts here.

Here’s the email from the reader:

Currently IHG Ambassador and Spire and Hilton diamond, and American airlines exec platinum.

Any tips for status match? I’d like to switch Hilton for Marriott now….

SPG status fast track program is open for every one and doesn’t require you to have any status with other programs (read more here).

You just need to do 9 nights for Gold or 18 for Platinum during the status period. Note that you can book up to three rooms for each night and they all count towards this requirement as long as you credit them to your account.

Marriott Rewards may offer something similar too and it is up to the agent. You may have to call number of times before you get one applied to your account.

Yet another option is to get reader’s Executive Platinum status matched with United and then do Rewards Plus for Marriott Rewards Gold status (at least for a year).

Hotel programs used to offer easy status matches from each others programs but those days are mostly gone for now and replaced by these status fast tracks where you need to complete number of nights/stays in usually over three month period.

The reader could do the match/fast track in either SPG or Marriott and then just link Marriott and SPG accounts that also automatically matches the status.
