New U.S. Based American Express Card Promotion (Targeted) For Air New Zealand Tickets: Save $300 Off A $1500+ Purchase

American Express in the U.S. has a new offer under their cardmembers ‘Personal Offers’ where a $300 discount is waiting to be used for Air New Zealand ticket purchases of $1500 or higher.

The targeted promotion (not every card) can be found in the online account of your eligible American Express card and registration is required.

I usually scroll through these offers on a monthly basis for both my American Express Charge Card and the SPG AMEX credit card, both of which usually have different offers related to their individual earning structure (Amex MR vs SPG Points). Some offers are points related, others offer cash back.

You can find the selection of your ‘Amex Offers & Benefits’ in your online account when you scroll towards the bottom. There will be an entire list of offers, many travel related in the one or other way. I usually add a range of them to my Premier Rewards Gold account if there is a chance i could use the offer.

This one from Air New Zealand is interesting:

Get a one-time $300 statement credit by using your enrolled Card to spend a minimum of $1,500+ in one or more transactions directly with Air New Zealand by 5/23/2018. Flight must originate in US.

This is the offer to look out for:

The offer was available on my Premier Rewards Gold Card but not on the SPG American Express Credit Card but you have to check your own account as you can’t draw any conclusions in terms of the targeting with Amex.

Conditions say the flight must originate in the U.S. so not sure if only purchasing flights on the U.S. website would do the trick for other international city pairs as well, I wouldn’t expect it work but if it does then even better.

There are other interesting offers as well right now such as:

  • Get $120 back when spending $600 or more on a Delta Airlines Flight
  • Get 6,000 Membership Rewards Points when spending $300+ at MGM Hotels&Resorts
  • Get $200 back when spending $1000+ at Hilton Hotels in Hawaii

Offers are available on a revolving basis and are more sponsor brand dependent than relying on Amex to target individual cardholders.

Let’s say someone is planning to buy a ticket in Premium Economy or Business Class (or even an expensive Economy Class ticket) then $300 is a good chunk of money to save.

Conclusion

This is a good way to squeeze something extra out of your card membership with Amex which (depending on your card type) can cost several hundred dollars per year that can be recovered by knowing your benefits the card offers and try to use at least the majority of them.

Apart from the welcome bonus of 50,000 Membership Rewards points I have already received more than $450 in savings and credits from the Premier Rewards Gold Card which is free during the first year. I also participated in many of these Membership Rewards Bonus Offers which is a great boost for the points account.
