The U.S. Travel Association’s Daily Getaways are back once again in 2018 and this week there will be interesting offers for Choice Privileges Points, IHG Rewards Club Points & AVIS Rent A Car.
The schedule for this week is as follows:
- April 9th: Universal Studios Hollywood
- April 10th: Choice Privileges
- April 11th: IHG Rewards Club
- April 12th: Sea World
- April 13th: AVIS Rent a Car
We shall focus on the loyalty program affiliated offers in our previews and reviews of the Daily Getaways since that’s what most of the readers are interested in.
You can access the Choice Privileges selection here.
Tomorrow (Wednesday) there will be IHG Rewards Club offers (access here):
It says that “No more than four (4) packages of points purchased through this offer are allowed per loyalty number. A maximum of (24) packages of points is allowed per loyalty number across all IHG offers.” Of course demand is usually high – for some offers more so than for others – so that it’ll be highly unlikely someone could score that many purchases.
There is no timeline given in the offer as to how fast these points would be deposited into the account.
Considering one can supplement cash and points bookings during the redemption process I just checked one of my regular hotels and found that instead of 35,000 IHG points one could also do 15,000 points plus US$125 for the 20,000 points difference. This offer (example above, different packages available) sells 25,000 IHG Points for US$149. Essentially a wash.
Then on Friday we have AVIS Rent a Car with two different offers (see here).
One is for a one day car rental (multiple coupons can be combined) in the U.S., Canada, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The coupons will be sent out via U.S. Mail within 10 business days after purchase. Price is US$30 per coupon.
I’m not a big fan of paper certificates to be honest but the offer is solid as it’s good for “any car-class up to a Premium (group G) car.” which can be pricey depending on the location.
Keep in mind that your credit card insurance coverage might not apply when using free rental certificates!
The other offer is for the AVIS Presidents Club Membership which is on sale for US$750 and doesn’t seem to be very interesting compared to the AVIS Chairman’s membership that was available via the Daily Getaways in previous years at US$1,115.
These are the benefits based on a pamphlet available online:
If you ask me I personally wouldn’t spend $750 on Avis Presidents Club. I had it before on a complimentary basis and it wasn’t anything to write home about.
Daily Getaways allow the public to buy points and gift cards for a decent price. The list of partners has always been pretty identical over the years and so I’d expect to see most of the partners from last year back in 2018.
I like some of the offers however during this week I’ll likely hold out and wait for the Hyatt round to be active to add a few extra World of Hyatt Points to my account since full on points redemptions now also count towards status qualification.
We will update members weekly about the upcoming U.S. Daily Getaway offers and might also have a full preview in the next few days.
