French newspaper Le Figaro was reporting yesterday (access here) that Accor was in talks to acquire Swiss hotel brand Mövenpick Hotels.
Mövenpick manages more than 83 hotels and 20,000 rooms in Africa, Asia, Middle East, Europe and Asia.
You can access Mövenpick’s website here.
Here’s Mövenpick’s map:
Not sure how this acquisition spree will end up for Accor. Buying at the top of the market is usually not the wisest move and do they really need more brands rather than curating the existing portfolio they already have?
Accor recently acquired FHRI (Fairmont, Raffles & Swissotel), Mantis, Rixos, expanded into the homesharing bandwagon via number of brands that are now consolidated under Onefinestay, licensed Orient Express brand and invested in Banyan Tree. It is becoming difficult to keep track of all this.
Of course this purchase may or may not go through. We will know in due course.
