Virgin Australia Velocity Offers Up To 40% Transfer Bonus For Partner Points Transfer (Unrealistic Thresholds)

Virgin Australia Velocity has opened a new campaign to transfer points from various credit card and hotel partners with thresholds that go up to 40% Bonus.

The thresholds are however quite unrealistic compared with the huge ‘Up To 40% Bonus’ banners as the 40% level requires members to transfer a whopping 750,001+ points.

Velocity often runs transfer bonus campaigns but usually the bonus maxes out at 20-25% and this is also the case this time when you’re looking at realistic transfer amounts. In fact the hotel partners are capped at 20% so once again Velocity shines with misleading advertisement.

You can access the promotional website here where the bonus levels and partners are explained.

Here are the bonus thresholds:

These are the transfer partners:

You can receive a Velocity bonus of up to 40% based on the number of Velocity points you transfer. Transfer your reward points from one of our participating partners for Velocity Points by 31 May 2018, and you will receive a bonus Velocity Points on top of the points you convert.

There is no registration required for this campaign. Simply transfer rewards points to Velocity to receive your bonus.

Conclusion

To advertise a 40% bonus when this in fact requires three quarter of a million points is really a joke. It’ll be hard to even find someone who has that many points sitting spare anywhere. The 15-20% bonus for realistic transfer levels are lackluster at best and certainly not a strong motivation for members to suddenly move over their points to Velocity.

Not sure why Velocity can’t just run a normal campaign without hyping it up artificially and not having any substance in the end. This isn’t a one off but a constant pattern with them.
