Alaska Airlines Flight Change Policy & Minor Award Chart Changes

Alaska Airlines today announced flight change policy and award chart changes that will take place in June, 2018.

Alaska Airlines Changes

Alaska Airlines will remove the fee free ticket changes 60 days before travel and same day confirmed changes will cost more. These fees are waived for MVP Gold and higher elite members. The minor award chart changes are effective June 25, 2018.

You can access Alaska’s page for award chart changes here and the flight change policy changes here.

Here are the award chart changes:

Transcontinental first class award seats now start at 30,00 miles each way instead of 25,000 and the high level economy to Hawaii costs more than previously. These are pretty much the only to negative award chart changes.

Overall, small changes to the award charts and difficult to say that they would even negatively affect most members.

The flight change policy changes, however, will affect adverse effect on travelers. Alaska has allowed members to change/cancel tickets if more than 60 days before travel fee free. Now they will hit you with a $125 fee. Southwest doesn’t charge such a fee that will put Alaska in competitive disadvantage against them.
