Back in March, I wrote a piece (access here) about Marriott Rewards Gold and Platinum challenges that the program has had for years. SPG still has their own too that requires 18 nights within 90 days and doesn’t require any prior status with any other program (read more here).
As I wrote in my piece back in March, Marriott Rewards often give different info over the phone than internet and it never hurts to ask twice if you don’t get what you would prefer first.
You can access Marriott Rewards here.
I applied for Marriott Rewards challenge back in March and it was the usual 9 stays within three months (the month when you sign up + the following three):
We are unable to retroact the Platinum Elite Status Challenge. I have enrolled you starting today March 21st. You have to complete nine eligible stays for the rest of this month and following three consecutive months.
We look forward to welcoming you as a Platinum Member. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any further questions or concerns.
I have lifetime status with SPG but I have not linked my accounts.
Sebastian tried to do same with his account this week and was told that it is 18 nights. This wold be inline what the SPG one requires.
There have been similar requirement variations in the past and it really depends on the individual whether 9 stays or 18 nights is preferable.
You are usually required to have Gold status with Marriott before they allow you to do this Platinum one. If you don’t have status at all, you are probably better by doing the SPG one and linking your accounts. The 18 nights for the SPG Platinum status can be completed in just 6 nights because you can credit up to 3 rooms per night.
