Qatar Airways today emailed its Qbiz program members that the program is discontinued basically effective immediately on May 23, 2018. Qbiz members have until May 17, 2019, to redeem their existing Qmiles balance.
Qbiz is program for small business that get rewarded for tickets purchased for their employees. Qbiz members earn Qmiles for these tickets that in turn can be used for award tickets.
You can access Qatar Airways website for Qbiz here.
Here’s the email that Qatar Airways sent out:
After careful consideration and to be able to serve you better, we have decided to close Qbiz and soon introduce a more rewarding loyalty program.
All of your utilised tickets* until 23 May 2018 will continue to earn Qmiles and you can continue to redeem your Qmiles balance until 17 May 2019, 23:59 HRS GMT+3.
If part of your Qmiles balance is expiring on 31st December 2018, 23:59 HRS GMT+3, please redeem them before this date.
Any remaining Qmiles balance after 17 May 2019, 23:59 HRS GMT+3 will be forfeited.
We would like to thank you for your continuous loyalty and support to Qatar Airways’ Qbiz program; we look forward to welcoming you on board our new program soon.
Why close Qbiz now before this “more rewarding loyalty program” is actually launched (and I am actually really afraid how “rewarding” it might be)?
Seems that Qatar Airways and Privilege Club are in a quest to cut costs at any price. In march, they made it extremely difficult to redeem awards (read more here) on partners (only by filling online forms that may be replied days later) and yesterday (read more here) the airline informed its members that new redemption fees would be effective on May 27 and they would also change how Qpoints are awarded.
Seems that these changes are very shortsighted and why not give proper advance notice to program members?
A reader emailed me that they had purchased tickets based on Qbiz promotion(s) and now the entire program is canned effective today.
