Emirates President Tim Clark revealed the airline’s Premium Economy plans on a recent podcast that was reported by Gulf Business.
The airline will install the Premium Economy cabin on its new Airbus A380 aircraft that will start arriving in 2020.

“We have already ‘spec’d out’ the aeroplanes; we know exactly what we’re going to do, [and] where we’re going to place these seats, which zones [destinations] and how we’re designing the product,” Clark told Emirates World host Steve Harvey.
He added the airline would receive the first six A380s from the February order in 2020 but disclosed few other details regarding the premium economy product itself.
“The aeroplanes that we ordered, the latest A380s – the first six of which come in 2020 – we will be installing premium economy in those, and it will be an Emirates premium economy, so it will be special.”
Premium Economy is very profitable cabin for many airlines and Gulf carriers have been very slow at jumping into this bandwagon. Emirates is the first one testing the waters with its new Airbus A380s that will have this product installed.
It must be headache, however, to have a small sub fleet with Premium Economy that other airplanes won’t. Do you then upgrade or downgrade the PY passengers in case of aircraft substitutions?
Very interesting to see how “special” Emirates Premium Economy is.
