Marriott Rewards has now released two documents trying to help understand Platinum member lounge access and welcome gift options come August 2018 for both legacy Marriott and SPG program members.
Marriott Rewards and SPG programs will merge in early August and will have standardized award chart for all hotels too. Combined program will have its new name announced in early 2019.
You can access Marriott’s page for program information here.
Platinum Elite Lounge Access:
Remember that Platinum members don’t have access to Marriott property executive lounges that are at resort properties.
Platinum Welcome Gift Options:
You could argue that SPG Platinum members see a devaluation here. The point option at full service hotels currently is 500 points (converts to 1,500 points at the new program) and 250 at the limited service ones (converts to 750). The points values are capped at 1,000 and 500, however. This is increase for Marriott Rewards members though.
Members are still not eligible for breakfast at Ritz-Carlton and EDITION brands in lieu of an amenity like is the case with Marriott resorts where currently Marriott elite members get nothing.
You have to be careful with Marriott Vacation Club, Autograph Collection Hotels (but not resorts – wonder why?) and Design Hotels if complimentary breakfast is deal breaker for you.
You need to start carrying these two PDFs with you in order to know what your Platinum entitlement is come August 2018! Just proves how complicated it is to get all 29 different brands under the same program and benefit schedule.
I am eagerly awaiting (not) all the confusion with properties what the Platinum benefits are…..
