When I wrote about yesterday (access here) how readers could purchase United Airlines MileagePlus miles at 1.67 during the IHG Rewards Club points sale that ends today (read more here), a reader left comment how this same deal is possible with Cathay Pacific’s Asia Miles too.
Cathay Pacific’s Asia Miles has promotion going on right now that I wrote about last month (read more here) where members can get 50% bonus on points to miles conversion with select partners until June 30, 2018 (as long as you haven’t converted since May 2017).
Here’s price for buying 100,000 IHG Rewards Club points:
You can buy 100,000 points (200,000 with bonus) for $1,000. Some members have raised purchase limit of 150,000 during this sale.
You can convert 200,000 IHG Rewards Club points with the 50% conversion bonus to 60,000 Asia Miles. The price of an Asia Miles would thus be 1.67 US cents each.
A reader pointed out that you cannot usually purchase Asia Miles. You can only top during redemption process and then the price is 3 cents per mile.
There appears to be couple of non-hotel related opportunities during this most recent IHG Rewards Club points sale that are likely unintended.
There is no downside taking advantage of these opportunities. Once the points have posted to your IHG Rewards Club account you need to call to have them moved if you want to do the points to airline miles conversion.
