Finnair Plus has joined the bandwagon of introducing family accounts for their frequent fliers, allowing up to 9 individuals in one group to pool their miles for redemptions.
Finnair has sent an email to all Finnair Plus members that the program will feature new options this June including said family account functionality.
Finnair Plus is now even more fun and social: with the new Family&Friends feature, you can track your overall view of award points together with your family and friends and save up for a dream reward. After creating a Family&Friends group, you can add travel goals and follow your progress towards them together, get an overview of the group’s award points and transfer points free of charge!

Finnair Plus Family&Friends allows you to create a group with other Finnair Plus members. You can get an overview of your Family&Friends group’s award points and track your progress towards the travel goals you set. You can also transfer award points between members of your Family&Friends group free of charge.
What are the benefits of a Finnair Plus Family&Friends group?
You can get an overview of your Family&Friends group’s award points and track your progress towards the travel goals you set. All non-junior members can also transfer award points free of charge online via the Family&Friends view in your profile. Please note that point transfers made via customer care and Finnair Shop are subject to a fee.
How can I create a Family&Friends group?
Simply login to your Finnair Plus account and create a group by clicking the create a Family&Friends group button. Please note, you can only be a member of one Family&Friends group at a time.
How can I join Finnair Plus Family&Friends?
You can join by creating your own group or by accepting an invitation from another Finnair Plus member. Please note, you can only be a member of one Family&Friends group at a time.
How can I invite members to my Family&Friends group?
If you are the admin of a Family&Friends group, simply login to your profile and send invitations from your Family&Friends view. Please note, you can only be a member of one Family&Friends group at a time.
Who can join a Family&Friends group?
Any Finnair Plus member including Junior members. You can join a group if you have received an invitation from a group admin and you are not a member of another group.
Can I remove myself from a Family&Friends group?
Yes, you can remove yourself from a group at any time. Just login and click “remove” from your profile’s Family&Friends view.
Is it possible to get my points back after I’ve transferred them to another member?
Points you’ve transferred to another member can only be transferred back by that member.
Can anyone else remove me from the Family&Friends group?
Only you and the group admin can remove you from the group.
What are the admin’s privileges – who can control the group?
The member who created the group or was assigned by a previous admin has administrative privileges. The admin can invite and remove members, rename and delete the group and set travel goals. The group admin can assign the privileges to anyone over 18 years old in the group. There can only be one admin at a time.
Can I transfer award points to anyone in the Family&Friends group?
You can transfer award points to all non-Junior members in the group. Point transfers made via the Family&Friends view are free of charge. Please note that transferring points does not reset or affect personal point expiry dates.
Can I transfer tier points to members of my Family&Friends group?
No. Everyone retains their individual membership tier and tier points.
How many members can a Family&Friends group have?
The maximum number of members in a Family&Friends group is 9.
For the aforementioned reasons I really like the option of family accounts and have been using them with British Airways Executive Club and before that BMI Diamond Club as well.
If you have family of friends who only fly once in a blue moon then maybe you can add them to your family account, especially if they don’t care much about miles since those would have no real value for them.
Finnair Plus is a decent program that also offers status matches on occasion as well as decent prices for premium cabins multiple times a year.
