Fabulous Fridays: Proactive Lost&Found Notifications By The Housekeeping Department

The Fabulous Fridays topic this week is about housekeeping that properly checks for Lost&Found items in the room and notifies the guest if anything has been left behind.

When I stayed at the Sheraton Resort in Kuta, Bali this week (mediocre hotel overall) I left a charging adapter for my iPhone cable behind and housekeeping alerted me promptly via email.

As someone who really loves to nitpick on hotels sometimes it’s very refreshing to see if something is done right and to give an individual credit for that. I have previously written about a very positive L&F experience at the Grand Hyatt Shanghai (see here) which was such a case as well.

This time I left a Samsung USB/Powerport adaptor on my bed and I actually became aware of that while I was sitting in the taxi driving away from the hotel. I have plenty more of these items at home and can charge my phone via USB this week until I’m back home so there was no pressing need to go back to the hotel and lose 20-30 minutes.

I then received the following email in the evening:

Dear Mr. Sebastian
Warm greeting from Sheraton Bali Kuta Resort
My name is Adnyana and I am the Housekeeping at Sheraton Bali Kuta Resort.
I would like to thank you for choosing us for your holiday destination, and hoping that you had a memorable experience during your stay and a safe trip back home.
Furthermore, I would like to inform, if Housekeeping Associate have found bellow item in your room after you left at Room #2037 on July 5th  2018
1 Unit Plug Charger: White (Samsung)
Kindly advise whether you’d like us to ship it at your cost or should we keep it until your next stay.
Please be advised should you decide not to claim it, and then the goods will be released to the founder within 6 months from now.
I hope above information suit you, should you need anything else please don’t hesitate to reach us.

I was very surprised about that efficiency because to be honest I leave quite a few things behind at hotels over the year which is quite easy if you spend 150+ nights at hotels and resorts.

Most of the time I don’t get the stuff back even if I happen to ask for it. It was ‘never found’. Most definitely, getting anything back unprompted or a notification to your phone number or email address on file is the absolute exception.

Conclusion

Too bad Starwood discontinued the Platinum Associate Appreciation certificates but I made sure to send a commending note to management. The small adapter is of no consequence to me but for some people it might make a difference (it would have made a difference to me as well if the cable was attached but thankfully i put that one in my bag – both are snow white and get easily swallowed on a bed sheet).
