My Marriott Travel Package Redemption: 7 Minute Call & Miles Were On United Account 24 Hours Later

Marriott Travel Packages have been the best way to redeem their points for years and I have burned majority of my Marriott points over the years this way (and basically made my million miler and lifetime status with AA when all activity counted)

Marriott Rewards Travel Packages 2018

Now, Marriott Rewards is greatly devaluing this award option come early August rendering it basically useless. You still have perhaps two weeks left to redeem at the old values (read more about the Travel Packages here and the unfortunate changes here).

You can access Marriott’s page for this award option here.

I have called Mexico City (Saturday), Kuala Lumpur (weekdays) and UAE (Sundays) numbers previously when dealing with Marriott regarding previous Travel Package redemptions.

Marriott Rewards Travel Package Call

This time I decided to call the number in Malaysia as I was in Bangkok at the time. The call took roughly seven minutes and no need to go through selection trees to speak with a representative.

Received award confirmation promptly by email:

Marriott Rewards Order Confirmation

The certificate was in my account as was the deduction from the balance:

Marriott Unused Certificates

And the miles showed up on MileagePlus account in less than 24 hours later on Saturday:

United Airlines MP Activity

Conclusion

I am not sure why some members want to waste hours of their time and try to call the number in the States that is in complete disarray at the moment (read more here) and has always been answered during very limited business hours when better options do exist.

Marriott really should get the US number fixed, however. There is absolutely no excuse not to have customer service line for rewards members open that is staffed 247 at this day and age.
