American Express Membership Rewards currently has two transfer promotions available for their U.S. based members, offering a bonus on mileage transfers to JetBlue TrueBlue and Virgin Atlantic Flying Club.
The ratio is usually 20-30% lower for Virgin Atlantic and JetBlue so if you’re looking to transfer some Membership Rewards out of the account then this could be a good time.
You can find the transfer option in your online Amex card account under Membership Rewards – Airline Transfers :
Jet Blue can now be transferred in a 1:1 ratio and the promotional bonus ends October 1, 2018
There is a special ‘sweet spot’ with Virgin Flying Club, namely redemptions with ANA All Nippon Airways in their fantastic First Class (access the reward chart here) between Japan and USA / European destinations:
This could be a fantastic opportunity for those with many Amex points in their account to get themselves on the way to a nice First Class trip to Japan at probably the lowest mileage rates out there.
Keep in mind though that Virgin Flying club will levy fuel surcharges and availability should be checked beforehand over the phone to make sure it matches with those displaying on star alliance availability tools such as United Mileage Plus.
These are the Terms & Conditions for the two bonus partners:
Minimum transfer is 1,000 Membership Rewards points. Redeem for this exclusive offer from 12:00 a.m. MT on August 1, 2018 to 11:59 p.m. MT on September 12, 2018, to receive 30% additional Virgin Atlantic Flying Club miles. Additional Virgin Atlantic Flying Club will be awarded at the time of transfer.
Minimum transfer is 250 Membership Rewards points. Redeem for this exclusive offer from 12:00 a.m. MT on August 1, 2018 to 11:59 p.m. MT on October 1, 2018, to receive 25% additional TrueBlue points. Additional TrueBlue points will be awarded at the time of transfer. For each conversion of points into the Frequent Flyer program of a U.S. airline, a fee of $0.0006 per point, with a maximum fee of $99, will be charged to your Card account. We charge this fee to offset the federal excise tax we must pay on such conversions. The fee may be more or less than the actual amount of the excise tax we pay on any individual conversion. We may offer you the option to redeem points to cover this fee.
