When IHG Rewards Club launched Spire Elite status back in 2015 (read more), they gave yearly Elite Choice gift option for those members qualifying for the status.
Spire Elite members qualifying for the status by either earning 75,000 elite qualifying points or 75 nights could choose between 25,000 bonus points or gift Platinum status for a friend.
You can access IHG Rewards Club here.
My latest InterContinental stay just posted that pushed both the nights and the spend over the minimum (you need either – not both). The nights included quite a few rollovers from last year though.
The account shows that I would have two rewards available.
The Hertz Five Star status is, well, rather useless considering that many other programs give the Presidents Circle for their top tiers.
I decided to choose the point deposit option.
And they showed up on the account immediately.
I probably should contact IHG Rewards Club because it seems that they must have had an IT glitch last year. I was not offered Spire Elite gift last year after qualifying at all like in 2015 and 2016.
The unintended Royal Ambassador qualification change where only spend at the InterContinental hotels count have meant that my overall stays (and spend too) at the IHG are way down. Why would I stay at other brands at all? Very foolish and revenue negative move from IHG’s part IMHO.
I have trouble using my IHG points if I want to requalify for the Royal Ambassador status and this is the reason why these points just keep piling up. I probably should just order order of those meeting cards (and use towards paid stays) or convert to airline miles.
