LAST CALL: Marriott Rewards Travel Packages (Still Available At The Old Rates!)

Last month, I wrote (access here) about my Marriott Rewards Travel Package redemption experience and I decided to redeem another one this Monday morning. Call took just four minutes from start to finish (called the Malaysian number again).

Marriott Rewards Travel Packages 2018

Marriott Travel Packages have been the best way to redeem their points for years and I have burned majority of my Marriott points over the years this way (and basically made my million miler and lifetime status with AA when all activity counted).

You can access Marriott’s page for this award option here.

Now, Marriott Rewards is greatly devaluing this award option come mid-August rendering it mostly useless without airline related conversion bonus offer. You still have perhaps few days left to redeem at the old values (read more about the Travel Packages here and the unfortunate changes here).

The US customer service phone number for Marriott Rewards are only open Monday to Friday during limited hours and you may have to wait hours to get through to someone (unless you get disconnected).

You can, however, call any of the Marriott Rewards worldwide offices. Some of them are open on Saturdays and Sundays as well.

Received award confirmation promptly by email:

Award certificate was deposited to my account:

There have been issues with the US Marriott Rewards numbers as of late (read more here) and has always been answered during very limited business hours. There is apparently another number of the Travel Packages page that is answered during weekends too based on reader report

Not sure how long these Travel Packages are available at the old rates. I cannot see redeeming at the new rates in the future.

Marriott Rewards hasn’t informed how they are going to deal with unassigned certificates when the programs are merged. Are they going to issue new certificates to replace these or deposit appropriate number of points? Members would like to know.
