Alaska Airlines and Finnair announced their frequent flier partnership back in May 2017 and the ability for Mileage Plan members to redeem on Finnair flights was supposed to come later in the same year.
2017 went but Alaska Airlines has now finally enabled the Finnair award redemptions on its online booking interface and there are no nasty fuel surcharges like on those British Airways flights that tend to dominate all the searches done for flights between North America and Europe.
You can access Alaska’s page for Finnair here.
Here are Alaska’s Finnair award charts:
The bad news is that the award levels are not as good as with some other partners like Cathay Pacific.
But then there are no fuel surcharges like on those British Airways flights! You only need to pay $12.50 partner award booking fee.
It is always good to have more partners to redeem. Alaska recently lost quite a few including AeroMexico, Air France and KLM. Good to have Finnair that helps with flights to/from and around Europe.
It wouldn’t surprise me if Alaska adjusts their Cathay Pacific award levels at some point. They just seem so low compared to what everyone else has right now including all other Alaska’s partners. Not to give them any ideas but surely they know this.
