United Airlines Raises Checked Baggage Fees Effective August 31, 2018

United Airlines today decided to raise the checked baggage fee for tickets issued on or after August 31, 2018.

The change will affect passengers flying to/from North America, the Caribbean and Central America. The first checked bag fee now is $30.

You can access United’s page for checking bag fees here.

Second checked bag will cost $40 within United States, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, the Caribbean and Central America. Second bag to/from Canada will be $50.

Late Friday afternoon announcement from United Airlines before long holiday weekend in the US to ensure as little negative publicity due to this change as possible.

Let’s see if Delta and American will match this fee or otherwise United may have to retreat.
