Heathrow Rewards yesterday emailed its program members about new product that is available for travelers at the airport.
Heathrow has started to sell Fast Track security for cash. Previously, this was available for business/first class passengers and elite members from various frequent flier programs. Airlines are paying for the service.
You access to buy the Heathrow Fast Track here.
Here’s what was on the email:
Book a time slot approximately two hours before your flight is scheduled to depart
After check in, proceed to the Fast Track Security area in your departure terminal
Present your confirmation email and boarding card to the desk to gain access
Make sure you book early to avoid disappointment. Places on Fast Track are limited so make sure you get your spot today. Your booking needs to be made in advance of your departure date.
Here’s the price:
Sometimes when I have used this so called “Fast Track” at Heathrow its lines have been long and it has taken greater time to get through than regular security lines. Also in some terminals, it seems that the Fast Track is used to get wheelchair assisted passengers through the security (front of the line – passing the Fast Track passengers).
Same issue with the transit “Fast Track”. It is often faster at Terminal 5 to clear immigration and take the elevator departures and walk to First Wing (if you have Emerald status or flying in F) to access their security that is calm and efficient.
I am sure that perhaps paying for this Fast Track can make sense if the passenger(s) has/have no status and travel in economy during the busiest holiday period when the security lines can be long. Otherwise, I would probably give it a pass.
