British Airways will change its caterer at London’s Heathrow and Iberia at its Madrid hub in the spring of 2020 to Austria based Do&Co that is known for quality food (unlike both BA & IB).
The contract with these two airlines will run for ten years. Do&Co will build two new kitchens in London and Madrid and will hire 4,000 employees.
Note that the caterer change will only affect London’s Heathrow and Madrid.
Here’s an excerpt from Business Live (access here – Google Translate):
From Spring 2020, Do & Co will handle the catering and handling for all British Airways flights from London Heathrow and for Iberia and Iberia Express from Madrid for ten years. “It’s one of the biggest accounts in Europe, and we’re talking about about 500 planes that both operate on airlines,” said Dogudan on Tuesday. Iberia and British Airways are part of the London-listed International Airlines Group (IAG). The “very competitive” bidding process took almost two years, Dogudan said.
Do & Co will now build two new canteen kitchens in London and Madrid, employing a total of nearly 4,000 additional people, including nearly 3,000 in London. Currently, Do & Co employs around 11,000 people.
These caterers tend to work within the budget that the airlines set. Same caterer can supply Emirates with brilliant food and utter crap for British Airways that is not willing to pay for quality.
Let’s hope that Do&Co hasn’t sacrificed their brand to come up with a price that is acceptable for these two IAG airlines.
Cannot remember the last time I would have touched the food on short or even long-haul BA flights. I prefer eating before and/or after and not to be disturbed at all.
