American Airlines Raises Checked Bag Fees For Tickets Issued On/After September 21, 2018

American Airlines is matching the checked baggage fee increases that JetBlue, United Airlines and Delta Air Lines have already instituted.

The fee increase for the 1st and 2nd bag is $5 to $30 and $40 respectively on domestic, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central America itineraries.

You can access AA’s page for baggage fees here.

It was inevitable that American Airlines would match the fees first introduced by JetBlue and soon matched by United and then Delta. Easy money for the airline to collect.

You have to keep in mind that Southwest Airlines still doesn’t charge anything for the first or second bag making them an anomaly within the airlines in North America.
