For those who enroll or renew their IHG Rewards Club, Intercontinental Ambassador membership it’s strongly recommended to double-check the membership kit once it arrives as certain items might be missing.
You can access IHG’s page for InterContinental Ambassador program here.
IHG had problems with the membership packages for their Ambassador members in the past which ranged from missing items to delivery times of 6+ months.
When I renewed my Ambassador status in early August nothing was specifically said about the Ambassador gift being discontinued, not that it really makes much of a difference as it’s usually a simple luggage tag or during the previous year an IHG branded credit card wallet.
This merchandise holds barely any value but after receiving my envelope last week it didn’t contain the free weekend night certificate either:
Warm greetings from the InterContinental Ambassador Service Center!
Foremost, I apologize for the missing Weekend Night Certificate.
I wish to inform you that I have arranged for a replacement Weekend Night Certificate to be sent to your preferred mailing address. Delivery time is approximately fourteen (14) business days.
Kindly make sure that someone will be available to sign the parcel, as it will be sent via UPS.
In addition, please be advised that beginning late of 2017 we have stopped sending the welcome gift as we are currently working on improving our portfolio.
Thank you for giving us the opportunity to be of service to you. Please let us know if you need further assistance by sending us an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Sincerely, Ambassador Services
Well ok they’ll send out a new certificate via express but I fail to see how eliminating a gift for the customer is considered “improving the portfolio”.
In Fall of 2017 IHG already discontinued the 5000 bonus point voucher that always used to be in the package.
I don’t need the certificate anytime soon, in fact I still have the one from last year that I’ll have to use this month in Singapore or Beijing. It could be a problem though for some people who plan to use the free weekend night as soon as their package arrives so we recommend to check the envelope for all contents as soon as it arrives.
This isn’t an isolated incident as many readers contact us and say “this and that is missing” or that they haven’t received their membership credentials in the first place. From this it appears that IHG has problems with their fulfillment partner or who is sending out these membership credentials. I don’t suspect theft in this case as the Weekend Certificates are personalized and not transferable (at least not officially).
