A LoyaltyLobby reader sent us a question about InterContinental Ambassador renewal options and when the 10% reward night discount is applied?
You can access IHG’s page for Ambassador program here.
Here’s the email from the reader:
I have just logged in to check my renewal options and see that you can now pay $150 to renew OR pay $200 and get 15k points plus a 10% rebate on all reward nights for 12 months (up to 100k back).
My current status expires 1st January 2019, but do you know if this 12 months of rebates would begin from the date I renew (ie now), or would it be from 1st January?
I have an 8-night stay in the IC Boston in late October, which has cost 560k points, so a 10% rebate on that on top of the 15k for tee Ewing would more than pay for itself!
IHG has offered several discount offers for Ambassador renewals for years and an option to buy it outright on points too.
The $200 option that comes with 15K bonus points ($75 if you value them at half of a cent each) and 10% rebate on awards (capped at 100K) is very attractive.
The problem is that I am not 100% sure if the point rebate only applies when the awards are both booked and consumed within the 12 month Ambassador period or when they are consumed within the Ambassador year regardless of the booking date. I hope if readers could chime in with their experiences.
This Ambassador 10% rebate is combinable with the credit card award discount too. Some members can thus save up to 20% off of their redemptions.
I have not been able to take advantage of this Ambassador discount because IHG has been renewing my Royal Ambassador status (we’ll see what happens in January 2019).
