TPG was reporting today (access here) that American Airlines has made Air Tahiti Nui, Qatar Airways and SriLankan awards bookable online instead of having to call them in.
This expands the number of airlines that can be booked on AA’s website to 13. You still cannot book airlines such as Cathay Pacific, LATAM, JAL, S7, Gulf Air or Etihad without picking up the phone despite the first four being Oneworld alliance members.
You can access AA’s page for partner airlines here.
Award search for Hong Kong – Male
The website pull up itineraries with only Qatar Airways and mix of Malaysia Airlines and SriLankan flights. The taxes/fees are reasonable (no nasty fuel surcharges).
The price in business is 40,000 AAdvantage miles.
Award search for Papeete – Sydney
Only economy class awards were available but competitively priced at 15,000 AAdvantage miles. The taxes/fees to Sydney were around $60. AA nicely combined Air Tahiti Nui and Qantas flights.
I pretty much credit flights only to programs that allow me to book award flights online without having to call and speak to agents. These calls invariably take long time and agents don’t always know how to or are unwilling to book the partner inventory available.
Good that American Airlines has now extended the online award booking functionality with these airlines. I hope that they would bring the rest onboard promptly too.
